Brutus Finds a Monster

In the children's book Brutus Finds a Monster by Tif E. Boots, animal friends Brutus, Scrump, and Charlie enter the forest to play hide-and-seek. There's an unusual amount of animal chatter, and the forest seems darker than usual. Suddenly, in "an explosion of leaves and small branches, followed by loud yipping," Brutus flies past his friends. He has seen a monster! The story, written for children from preschool through grade 4, encourages them to face their fears and offers advice on staying safe while playing outdoors. Syranity Barker's vibrant artwork creates a sense of mystery and suspense.
