What drew me to this book written by Tif E. Boots was an identification with the title, A Misfit's Mask. What was this author going to share about wearing a mask? Had she learned something that would help me to identify, to protect, or to hide my self-perception. Was I going to hear a voice that I could identify with, someone else like me?

The rhythm of the poems and the pace of the vibrations of words chosen with precision created an emotional experience. The rawness of the character and the emotional honesty in the poems kept me reading further into the heart of the author. I felt vulnerable as I identified with the poet's responses to a world where a mask is worn to feel safe. Where the Misfit is often comforted only by a willingness to survive. The twists and turns of identification were inspiring and healing.

A Misfit's Masks assisted me to identify and release adolescent traumas that were part of a Misfit's life. A part of my life as a Misfit.

I recommend A Misfit's Mask to anyone who is on a journey of self-discovery to the authenticity of their true character.
